Zheng Sheng Christian School Campus

Nestled within a remote valley, the Ha Keng Centre comprises three staggered concrete volumes raised on pilotis to preserve the site’s natural terrain. Its structural “up-turn beam” two-way slab system eliminates internal columns, yielding expansive, uninterrupted floor plates that flexibly accommodate communal, educational and residential functions.

The buildings are oriented to optimize daylight and natural cross-ventilation in a passive-cooling environment—no air-conditioning required—and generous overhangs and brise-soleil provide solar shading. Materials are both local and low-impact: cast-in-place concrete mixed on-site by centre residents, with reusable formwork transformed into bespoke furniture. Circulation paths, from open‐air walkways to intimate courtyards, guide users through a sequence of public, semi-private and private spaces, reinforcing community engagement and environmental integration.
